10 Months.

My life from September to Now:

-I'm still with my wonderful boyfriend. [and yes...he's still wonderful]

-Having a long distance relationship has been challenging...but I am happy to announce that it won't be long distance for much longer!

-I've become somewhat of a human rights activist.

-I've gone on a completely different path career wise...and I couldn't be happier about my decision.

-I've become very health conscious.

-As of August I will be moving to Baltimore, Maryland.

-I will be going to grad school to study Public Health. My concentration is Community and Population Health.

-I still work two jobs.

-I've vowed to never work retail again after I move.

-This year I've traveled to Puerto Rico and Miami.

-I've become very open with my opinions. No more Mrs. Shy Girl ;-)

-My hair has been natural for over 2 years now. And it is thriving.

And yea...10 months in a nutshell. Ill be elaborating on these posts little by little. Wonder which one I should tackle first. Hmmmmm....

Morning Thoughts

I dont think I've met him yet.

Who? My husband.

Dont get me wrong...I've been head over heels in love. In fact, I still am [but thats another post]. Its just...all of the guys I've met have been selfish as hell. When I look at my parents relationship...they love each other unconditionally. Even when they fight. Even when they argue. Its all irrelevant to them. Their love shines through and they never let the bullshit affect their family. They get over it. They realize that they have to work hard to get all that they want out of their relationship...and they have no problem doing so. They share a common goal. They compromise.

I've never met someone who was willing to do that for me...or I them. The dudes I've met havent been husband material. That kind of scares me. Sure I've met someone that I would absolutely adore spending my life with....but deep down I know it wouldnt be right. He's too selfish to love me the way that I need him to. Hell, he's too selfish to love me the way that he wants to.

The good thing is...I think I'll know it when I finally do meet him. The one guy who will make all of the others seem insignificant. The man willing to work for our love.

I know he's out there.

Hair Talk.

Its been 2 1/2 months since my last relaxer and a 1 1/2 months since the last time i put heat on my hair. My hair has grown soooo much since i started my heat free hair diet, i LOVE it!! Today I came up with my transitioning (relaxed to natural) plan. Im excited...I think this may actually work.

1) Ill get my hair trimmed every 3 months (the first time will be at the end of august). Ive noticed a lot less split ends since I started using Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner and African Pride Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Formula, so it may not be completely necessary to trim my hair this often. For now this is my plan because it will allow me to gradually get rid of my permed ends while maintaing a length that I am comfortable with. I think trimmed hair tends to look healthier anyway.

2) I will only allow myself to put heat on my hair one week out of every month.

3) In November I will get a weave. November will mark 6 months post relaxer for me. That is around the time that I usually get a touch up so I figured getting a weave would counteract my urge to go back to the creamy crack. I had my first weave last April. I loved it but I started missing my own hair after a month. I think this also has to do with the fact that it was pretty hot in Virginia and I couldnt wash my hair as often as I would have. But since it will be pretty cold in November I dont think Ill have that problem this time around. My plan is to keep the weave in until February (3 months).

4) I may big chop for my one year in May depending on how long my hair is. Im not comfortable with short hair so this is huge for me. If May comes around and Im not satisfied I will big chop in November 2012---the year and a half mark.

Im excited to continue on with my hair journey. I cant wait to see what my hair looks like. Ive been staring at my pictures pre-relaxer (birth-age 12) imagining what it will look like =]
