Hair Talk.

Its been 2 1/2 months since my last relaxer and a 1 1/2 months since the last time i put heat on my hair. My hair has grown soooo much since i started my heat free hair diet, i LOVE it!! Today I came up with my transitioning (relaxed to natural) plan. Im excited...I think this may actually work.

1) Ill get my hair trimmed every 3 months (the first time will be at the end of august). Ive noticed a lot less split ends since I started using Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner and African Pride Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Formula, so it may not be completely necessary to trim my hair this often. For now this is my plan because it will allow me to gradually get rid of my permed ends while maintaing a length that I am comfortable with. I think trimmed hair tends to look healthier anyway.

2) I will only allow myself to put heat on my hair one week out of every month.

3) In November I will get a weave. November will mark 6 months post relaxer for me. That is around the time that I usually get a touch up so I figured getting a weave would counteract my urge to go back to the creamy crack. I had my first weave last April. I loved it but I started missing my own hair after a month. I think this also has to do with the fact that it was pretty hot in Virginia and I couldnt wash my hair as often as I would have. But since it will be pretty cold in November I dont think Ill have that problem this time around. My plan is to keep the weave in until February (3 months).

4) I may big chop for my one year in May depending on how long my hair is. Im not comfortable with short hair so this is huge for me. If May comes around and Im not satisfied I will big chop in November 2012---the year and a half mark.

Im excited to continue on with my hair journey. I cant wait to see what my hair looks like. Ive been staring at my pictures pre-relaxer (birth-age 12) imagining what it will look like =]

My Week at a Glance.

Havent blogged all week...but then again I havent been doing much. I did manage to revamp my blog though...i kinda love it =]

Heres a mini synopsis of how my week is going:

  1. Im still looking for a job. The post college job market has NOT been good to me =[
  2. Ive decided to live a little healthier. Being stuck in the house all day results in me snacking all day long. Snacking + Sitting on your ass 24/7 is NOT a good combo lol. Ive  been trying to stop eating just because Im bored. My weight isnt a serious issue for me right now, but I realize that its a lot easier to keep it tight than it is to get it tight! My mom and I have also resumed our walks...we did 2 miles today =]
  3. I saw Bad Teacher today. Pretty funny, I laughed a lot!
  4. I tried a braid out on my hair yesterday. It came out HORRIBLE!! However, I did it over today and Im in love. I know the more I do them the better they will look...This may be my go-to hairstyle this summer!

*** i realize my room is extremely childish lol.. but those dolls are collectors items!! i will give them to my daughter one day =]

My first Bantu Knot Out!!! My hair is still relaxed but Ive decided to try out a few natural styles this summer to help me decide if Im going to transition or not. I love this style and knowing that it would look even better if I was natural makes me want to just go for it. Hmmmm.

Natural Talk.

So lately Ive been contemplating "going natural."

While researching the topic (mainly going to a billion natural hair blogs) I noticed that most women go natural because their relaxed hair is damaged and unhealthy. Thats not the case for me at all. In fact I had short thin-ish ( i wasnt bald though!) hair for my entire life until I got a relaxer at age 12. Is it weird that the relaxer actually did my hair a world of good?? It grew a ton and actually got thicker. Right now I only get perms 2-3 times a year and I rarely put heat to it. People bash relaxed girls but Im pretty sure my hair is healthier than a lot of natural girls out there.

Despite my hair already being healthy, Ive been admiring some ladies with BEAUTIFUL curls lately. Its only human that I start imagining what some of these styles would look like on myself. Ive learned that going natural is all a big swindle really. A lot of girls walking around with pretty curls dont really have curly hair. They just know which products and techniques to use in order to TRICK their hair into thinking its curly. Hmmmm. Could I trick my hair??

These are all just thoughts at the moment...I just got a relaxer on saturday so if I do decide to do the natural thing I will be waiting a long time lol.

Do I have any transitioning natural readers??
